Just walking into the hotel gives you an awesome feeling. Our room was clean an spacious. The employees were anxious to help with anything we needed. The best part of the hotel is the lobby bar with its magnificent domed ceiling. Our experience in the Dome Restaurant was one of rare complete ultimate service--worth the high price. It was close enough to the Mexican border that we took the trolly into Juarez and walked back. The hotel was very reasonable for its beauty, location and service.

We visited El Camino Real en route back from a wedding in New Mexico and were delighted to experience this jewel of an historic hotel in El Paso. We adored the beautiful historic features, chandeliers, etc. Our room was large and very clean had great views of El Paso. Service was excellent. There were very few guests--the hotel was quite quiet. We were able to use the really nice weight room and pool...both virtually empty. The hotel's location is central to everything and we were able to catch a super efficient free hotel shuttle both to and from the airport. All at a total cost of $94/night. At this price the Camino Real--and a visit to El Paso is a real bargain.

We had never been to El Paso so we checked the web. We were amazed by the Camino Real hotel webpage, but who believes these pictures? However, the actual hotel surpassed our expectations. It is an historic hotel in a plaza with other cultural buildings (a performing arts center and a museum). The hotel is beautifully and tastefully decorated - wood, marble and a huge stained glass dome encompassing the bar. This elegant atmosphere made our margharitas taste so much better. Near the bar was a 4 diamond restaurant that was a bit too pricey for our present vacation which was to visit Big Bend and other national parks. Our rooms were spacious and decorated with furnishings unlikely to be found in an American hotel chain. Each floor was nicely decorated (we checked!). The lobby showcased artwork with huge paintings of horses, native Americans etc. done by local artists. The hotel staff was helpful and suggested restaurants even though there were two in the hotel. This stay set a nice tone for the trip. We were there for only two days and I wouldn't look any further were we to find a reason to be in the El Paso area again.

Just writing to say that we honestly can't see what the bad reviewers saw that was bad in the hotel. During our stay their we got a huge Junior Suite which had a marvelous view of downtown El Paso. All the furniture and bedding was modern and not old and frumpy. Carpeting was very clean and seemed newly installed to match the muted red decor.

A/C worked correctly with no issues at all. The suite we stayed in had modern draperies and was very well lit inside. The bed was awesome and huge. New modern linens with full set of huge pillows and blankets that were comfy. You get the option of having your bed done everyday with new comfy modern linens or they can reuse the same linens to save on not using detergents. They are part of eco-friendly hotels who try to use less earth-damaging practices ie. less harmful chemicals, energy efficient lighting (the reason those bath lamps take 2 mins which is really less than a minute to warm up to full brightness). Great choice if you're into staying in a more eco-conscious hotel.

The vicinity of downtown with the El Paso Museum of Art right directly behind the hotel and a Plaza theatre where you can check out touring Broadway plays next to it. Plus you are right in the central bus hub where you can take a 25 cent trolley to go to El Paso's sunset heights district or to the bridge of Mexico to partake in fine dining/sight seeing or check out the university.

The hotel itself has a great decor the Dome bar is just a nice place to be in because it's something you don't see every day. Likewise around the dome bar you have various actual authentic paintings or Lithographs from renound artists i.e. Salvador Dali, Picasso that you don't see at a Hilton or any other hotel in the area another great site to have your cameras ready to take pics of.

Parking is pretty big so no worry about not finding parking and the cars are real close to the elevators to bring up your staff if you don't take advantage of the bellboy service. In/Out privileges everyday for 5 bucks in DOWNTOWN is awesome. We had the advantage of booking when they offered free breakfast vouchers. Azulejos the mexican restaurant inside the Hotel serves some of the best mexican breakfast buffett which we recommend you check out. Great chilaquiles, chile colorado/verde and other regular american staples like pastries, cereal oatmeal etc. at a very decent price. Don't pass up on taking them up for the breakfast. Service was very swift and nice as well.

All in all a great hotel which more people should give a shot at. Don't go to much by the previous bad reviews imo.

I loved this hotel                    I stayed here for New Years eve and I loved the hotel, the room was nice and cozy, the bed and pillows were comfy and everything just went really well, they even let me check in a few hours earlier. I will stay here next time I am in El Paso. I also got this hotel at a great price online.

I also loved this hotel            Set right in the heart of downtown El Paso, the Camino Real is an excellent hotel in every way. The rooms are comfortable and the staff friendly - they were particularly helpful in helping us get to Juarez airport. All the facilities are good too.

The bar is spectacular with its Tiffany dome and was always busy and lively - although I did not care for the loud 80s rock music the band played but that's maybe what Texmex people like.

We ate once in the Dome restaurant which. although pricey, was high quality dining and recommended.

Maybe after several days in Mexican hotels, this comfortable, historic hotel seemed especially good but I will definitely stay again if I had a chance.

Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of downtown         Great location downtown with nice views. Do not miss having a drive at the famous Dome Bar with the Tiffany Ceiling dome. The parking lot is a little precarious, be super careful. We were told by other colleagues about the wonderful (& free) continental breakfast downstairs, the staff did not tell us, but we checked and it was indeed free and delious.

I don't understand all the belly aching about this hotel. I was there in October 08 and was very impressed. For those of you who don't like it - ITS AN OLD HOTEL !! It has a little character and is not a brand new generic, bland, milk-toast, boring box room with puffy sheets.

I had a corner room big enough to play raquetball in, with a great view, the staff was great, the bar was great, no problems at all. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Not SUPER for business

Exceptional Hotel             This is a wonderful old hotel. The architectual elements make it stunning visually. I stayed over a long weekend on 8th floor and the view was great. The service received was well above average from a friendly and helpful staff. Camino Real is easy to get to and is in a good location to get to anywhere in the city relatively easily and parking is great. (You receive a parking credit if you fill out the hotel feedback form.) The hotel is old so do not expect state of the art amenties, but the rooms are roomy, clean, and comfy.

great hotel, great people, loved it.            This hotel was fantastic. We loved it. One of the best we stayed in on our Amtrak trip through the USA.

Beautiful and large clean room. Great staff at desk and the guys who organised taxis and shuttles were very helpful. Luxurious surroundings in lobby and bar. We felt very comfortable with room and staff. And the people of El Paso are beautiful !!

Internet in lobby was a joy - no problems with emails. A computer was always available at no charge.

Great position close to Amtrak, shopping, restaurants and Juarez.

A wonderful experience! If you enjoy being within walking distance to some fine restaurants (one infront of the Greyhound bus satation of all places...very run down art school looking, with a small but fabulous menu...the other Cafe Central was as good as it gets),a fine museum of art, and the colorful streets full of very modestly priced, but colorful Mexican American shops this place is for you. The hotel staff was welcoming from check in to check out time. The bed linen was sparklling white, the breakfast prices fair for hotel breakfasts(the oatmeal and fresh orange juice perfect), the Dome Bar a beauty. The furniture in our roon on a non-smoking floor was sort of a mixed bag, but comfortable. The bathroom needed another towel rack and looked a bit tired, but was very clean . We stayed in El Passo for three nights, and would definitly stay at the Camino Real again. If you want an "original" and not a cookie cutter boring hotel stay here!

We had a fantastic stay at The Camino Real Hotel        Arriving early to this hotel, they accomodated us with an early check in which was great as we had travelled a overnight to get there. We found the rooms to be excellent, very clean and big. Everything you could want except a fridge. It is well located and we found it great value for money and dined in their restaurants - spot on.
